Brighton 28/03/12

Hi! I've just got back from my university interview in Brighton. Just thought I'd share some photos I took of an area called The Lanes in Brighton town, where all the vintage shops are and a cool garden my Mum and I found. It was such a sunny day, I saw lots of burnt faced people! My interview went well, I'll let you know if I get in:)

The Lanes

A fabric shop I might be visiting alot! So much fabric in there, but it was a little expensive, so no buys today.

This shop caught my eye straight away, I loved all the cartoons showing the Alice in Wonderland story, so playful and cute.

One of the many vintage shops. The top photo is a section of the window display, I really liked the old telephones, love the colours. Its full of crammed rails to rummage through and has really nice knitwear and satin dressing gowns. I really like the left 3 dresses in the middle picture, the colours and shapes are lovely and are what I usually go for with my clothing.

The university

The campus I'll hopefully go to, I'll be with the textiles students as well as the fashion students but also with artists and photographers so hopefully I can do some collaborations and joint projects :)

The Garden

Lots of grass gardens perfect for summer picnics.

The outfit I chose, It was hot so I brought out the maxi dress! Ignore my squinting eyes,  just couldn't get away from the sun.

 The pier

A quick picture from the car, You cant see it well but it's the Brighton pier!

My mac

Hey, this look was from last week, I find it hard to figure out an outfit around this skirt as it needs high heels and a top that matches. Here I've gone high street here, the jumper is from H&M and the top from Topshop. I love jumpers over shirts but its hard to find a cute cheap one that fits!

My new mac, it's from Sainsbury's! It's so nice I couldn't believe it, My mum got it in black as well, so we match! :)

I love silky scarves with this mac, I looked at how other women worked the mac, they all had these old fashioned scarves, which is good as I have loads of them from my charity shop visits!

My 50's dress from Asos

I brought this dress is the sale, half price! I really liked how it actually looked like its from the 50's, since Louis Vuitton's 50's inspired collection I craved to own a day-wear dress. It's 100% cotton, which makes it casual, but I think it would look great in the evening with an underskirt to puff out the skirt! The sleeve shape is very on trend with the curve around the shoulder. Also its kept to the traditional trend of matching the belt with the dress so it becomes part of the dress.

Look how nice the pleats are! The pattern is very interesting because from a far the pattern looks quite 3D due to the changing size of the white dots, its only when your close up you realise what it is.

I'm thinking a potential university interview outfit?

ROCHAS

I was so excited to see the Rochas show, Usually I'd get my images of Vogue.com but Dazed Digital had such gorgeous photos so I had to use them! I've included the link at the bottom of the post. They went for a simple silhouette but the stiffness within the fabric is what makes them work, they hold their shape. They have used this to their advantage and produced garments with bold pleats and tucks that hold a lot of volume and shape. The colours and tone used work so well together and I love the new take on the traditional check print.

Gorgeous mix of knitwear and garment types.

My 30's inspired dress

I made this dress at college last year, I was inspired by the satin dresses of the 30's and I wanted to make a fishtail dress that clings beautifully to the figure and elongates the legs. I'm pleased with the dress but using satin shows up every pull and seam, so I wont be using it again any time soon!

Cute Sketchbook Page

I like the use of the different fonts and the layers within, hopefully I'll produce work like this related to my new fashion project, Japanese Identity.
